Who We Are.
Novien is an engineering consulting agency built around a team of multi-disciplinary specialists. From early concept and new product development to production-ready design, we become an extension of your team, bridging the gap between an idea and a manufacturable product.
Core Philosophy
Engineering Excellence as Standard
Technical Stewardship
We act as the dedicated guardians of your technical intent. From early concept through design validation and the handoff to manufacturing, our stewardship ensures no detail is lost in the transition from design to delivery.
Rigor & Reliability
Precision is the baseline, not the goal. Disciplined design reviews, thorough documentation, and a build-test-iterate approach keep mission-critical work dependable.
Engineering Focus
We act as an extension of your R&D team, thriving on complex problems and exotic materials that others deem "unmanufacturable."
Executive Leadership
Decades of combined aerospace and industrial experience

Founder & CEO
Scott Rendel
With a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (2011) and 13 years of experience, Scott is a seasoned expert in his field. In 2017, he founded Novien, initially starting as a freelancer before quickly growing a team due to an increasing workload. As a technical lead on over 150 projects, he brings a comprehensive understanding of the entire process, from early concept to production. His wide-ranging expertise spans electrical, mechanical, software/firmware, prototyping, and fabrication, enabling seamless collaboration across multiple disciplines. The core team at Novien is supported by a vast network of talented professionals, including industrial designers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software/firmware engineers, machine shops, sheet metal fabrication shops, 3D printing bureaus, and contract manufacturers. He is happily married to his elementary school sweetheart, whom he met at age 10 and confidently told his father, "I'm going to marry that girl!" Together, they have three wonderful children. He enjoys exploring with his family, kayaking, hiking, playing sports, and savoring good food. In his free time, he loves to tinker in his workshop, equipped with a range of tools and equipment for prototyping and testing, including 3D printers, a CNC router, a desktop injection molding machine, a laser cutter, and all the usual workshop essentials.

Operations Manager & Partner
Daniel Lim
Daniel Lim is the Operations Manager at Novien, where he leads internal operations, supports strategic execution, and ensures that Novien’s cross-disciplinary engineering teams are equipped to deliver high-performance solutions. He oversees project workflows and financial systems, helping to streamline the company’s expanding portfolio of product development and engineering initiatives. Daniel brings a strong background in corporate law and business operations. Before joining Novien, he worked as a mergers and acquisitions attorney at leading international law firms in New York City, advising Fortune 500 companies on complex transactions, regulatory compliance, and governance. Through this work, he developed a deep understanding of clients’ strategic and operational priorities, not just from a legal standpoint, but from a broader business perspective—allowing him to engage with companies holistically during high-stakes deals. This experience informs his operational leadership and attention to detail at Novien. Outside of Novien, Daniel also serves in a part-time pastoral role in New York City, offering leadership training and mentoring in a college ministry context. He holds a J.D. from Emory University School of Law and is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Westminster Theological Seminary.

Engineering Manager & Partner
Mike Lloyd
A multi-faceted professional with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2016). Mike spent four years in the aerospace industry, developing components for commercial, military, and space applications, and collaborated with global clients to create actuation components featuring self-lubricating liners. Transitioning from a successful freelance career in mechanical engineering design and consulting, he self-taught software development and moved into software engineering and cybersecurity. Notably, he helped overhaul the application security program for a large multinational data company, implementing modern practices and infrastructure. His technical expertise spans a wide range of software-related disciplines, including frontend and backend web development, mobile development, DevOps, information security, CI/CD, and embedded firmware development. Prior to his engineering career, he served five years in the US Marine Corps as an infantryman, achieving the rank of sergeant and leading an infantry rifle squad. He is married to a wonderful and encouraging woman who has always supported his endeavors. They have four imaginative children who love reading and going on adventures together. He has a passion for building, playing bass guitar, and cooking good food.

Senior Mechanical Engineer
Jon Geerlings
With a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2010) and over 15 years of engineering experience, Jon has a proven track record of solving complex mechanical challenges. His career is defined by a high level of versatility, having developed solutions across the automotive, oil and gas, and robotics sectors. Jon has extensive experience designing specialized robotics for nuclear power plant inspections, where precision and reliability are crucial. He also understands the need for fast-paced development and improvements, having led production units in automotive manufacturing. His technical expertise includes advanced 3D modeling, machine control, PLC integration, and Design for Manufacturing. Jon’s ability to navigate the nuances of injection molding, sheet metal, and CNC machining allows him to bridge the gap between a conceptual sketch and a production-ready assembly. At Novien, he leverages this cross-industry perspective to ensure that every design not only solves difficult problems but is also optimized for scalable manufacturing and real-world durability. Outside of his professional work, Jon is a dedicated husband and father of three kids. He is a lifelong learner who loves making new things. If he isn't at his desk, you can likely find him in his shop building a project or out enjoying the outdoors with his family.
